History:
Pre-A.S. 111: After the War for the Palace ended, several Go-Backs from Khavi's tribe decided to break out and start anew. One such group was led by an avid star-gazer, who was always moving with the seasons, using star constellations for navigation. They became a nomadic tribe known as the Starchasers, and existed for centuries with relatively little interaction with humans or trolls. This group of Go-Backs met with a small band of Wolfriders close to 350 years ago (from current events), and they merged after several members of both tribes Recognized.
Tenderleaf was born to a Wolfrider mother from a three-mating with a Go-Back male and female. Her father was already tenting with a lovemate at the time, and Recognized Tenderleaf's mother when her Wolfrider tribe passed through the Starchaser's territory. They then became three-mated lifemates together. She has a half-brother conceived at the same time as her, but who was born a few days before she was. Her father gave her the Go-Back cub name Deryn (meaning "wren"), naming her after the constellation that shone brightest in the sky when she was born.
Tenderleaf's mother taught her herbal healing after she showed a talent for recognizing herbs and berries at a young age. When she discovered her plant-shaping magic, she changed her name to Tenderleaf. She was raised with both Wolfrider and Go-Back values, and prefers to eat meat raw, rather than cooked.
Her brother and she could not have been more opposite from one another: from a young age he possessed a strange streak of cruelty. He showed a passion for hunting and fighting early on, and soon became one of the best fighters in the tribe. Matched with his mean and self-serving nature, these talents gave him an ego that could not be humbled. He was particularly fond of tormenting Tenderleaf, whom he saw as weak and lacking as a "Go-Back". Things came to a head one day when they were both on a bear hunt: he placed his half-sister in harm's way, using her as bait, to gain the honor of delivering the killing blow. Upon seeing the events play out in front of his eyes, Tenderleaf's father ordered his son to leave the tribe: he was no longer safe to be around. No one has seen or heard from him for centuries, and Tenderleaf rarely speaks of him.
Longdays, A.S. 111: A local group of humans had begun to move closer to the mountain valley where the Starchasers had taken up residence, and the elders decided the time to move on had come. They packed up their tents and belongings and headed North. About two weeks later, they located a mountain-side where caverns and holes were abundant. The scouts explored the caves as far as they could: nothing appeared suspicious, so the Starchasers made camp. Unbeknownst to them, the caverns and tunnels were home to an army of trolls, led by the tyrant Ironskin. Doorways to the troll tunnels had been carefully concealed within the caves, leaving the elves in the dark about the danger below. A few days passed without issue, but less than a moon after arriving the trolls attacked, as the tribe was sleeping. Many tribe members were slaughtered before they had a chance to run, and those that raised their weapons were cut down quickly. Some were able to escape on elk-back (see: Hida , Lini , Tyme ). Tenderleaf knows that Elka, her second-mother managed to escape, but is unaware of her tribemates in the Go-Back tribe.
Tenderleaf was wounded in the fight, forced to watch as her father and mother were cut down in front of her. She was captured when she attacked a troll scavenger, and was dragged before Ironskin along with her poison-laced daggers. Wanting the strange poison for his own dark plans, the troll king locked her up and tortured her; her primary tormentor was Blackmark, the sadistic forgemaster. During her time in the troll tunnels she met another captive, whom she called NoName, and became close with him. Eventually, the trolls used NoName as a means to force Tenderleaf to comply with Ironskin's wishes for a supply of various poisons. They were added to the water supply of Sonia's Go-Backs, which led to several deaths. When the Go-Backs and Wolfriders attacked Ironskin's army, she and NoName were rescued, and they both decided to join the Wolfriders.
A.S. 112 and 113: During her first two turns with the Wolfriders, Tenderleaf focused on learning more about who she was, after the events of A.S. 111. Through the help of Foxtrail, Fletcher, and Mistblossom, she was able to come to terms with her actions in the tunnels, and move on. She slowly began to practice her plant-shaping in secret during A.S. 113, before asking Mistblossom to become her mentor.
Learning to adapt to the Wolfrider culture proved a challenge, despite the help of Alder and Deershy. She struggled to understand the mentality of the ‘Now’, even after she formed a bond with Juniper in Newgreen, A.S. 113. However, with the assistance of Dusksinger, she was able to confront her Wolfrider side, and finally come to terms with both her halves.

Den description: Tenderleaf sleeps in Fletcher’s den with both Fletcher and Foxtrail. However, she keeps her den near the top of the Father Tree as a place for her to work, or be alone when needed. The den is cozy and small (big enough for two to sleep comfortably), with small ledges shaped into the walls for candles and storage (used for her potted plants and jars of herbs). The walls and ceiling are decorated with paintings of elk and stars. She keeps her most treasured possessions in a small wooden container on one of the shelves.
