[&]History: Candeo has always been a playful elf, prone to mischief and trouble. He's a capable warrior, having learned to fight as soon as he could hold a knife; the tumultuous history of the Wavedancers made it necessary for all to be able to defend themselves and the pod. Despite the constant conflict between the pod and the landers, Candeo's mood stayed bright. For quite a long time, he did his best to keep things exciting, even if it meant he memorized every carving in Fourth Crown Mahina's hut as she asked him what he did "this time."
One sunny day, he met an elf from a traveling pod: Panaetha, a very talented healer. Dark as a thundercloud, her yellow eyes struck him like skyfire. She was not the least bit interested, but Candeo found his new passion; he'd do anything to win her over. For a season, he courted her, with no success...her pod moved on when the whitecold lifted. They returned that next year, to his delight, and he courted her again. This cycle went on for five turns. That fifth turn, he finally won her over! He made her laugh, and his devotion was irresistible. Her pod's second healer just came into his own, so Panaetha felt she could leave her pod and join Candeo's.
For three hundred turns, they were together, and he seemed to be in trouble with her as often as he was in trouble with Mahina. Still, his antics calmed as he settled, and a different urge stirred in him; family. Despite being together so long, he and Panaetha had not been able to have pips. Another century passed...the pod lapsed into a peaceful time. One night, he entered their hut wordlessly, picked her up, and took her to a secluded place on the beach. Under the stars, and with the help of Panaetha's powerful magic, they created Leaena.
The peace was not to last, much to their dismay. Leaena's birth was hurried, born in the middle of battle, and her parents wished fervently that they didn't have to raise her in all this turmoil. That's when Candeo truly switched from troublemaker to devoted father. Panaetha was often with wounded warriors or sleeping, and while Candeo was also busy fighting, he seemed to have more time and energy for his daughter. There were peaceful times too, when the little family could play in the waves and forget the landers.
Turns passed. Leaena matured into a young elf, her talent for shapeshifting an assumed gift from her mother's blood. Long after Leaena needed any more looking after, Panaetha's sister, Altica, died birthing her son, Aethyr. Aethyr and his father, Ink-skin, were very close to Candeo and his little family. One evening, the landers mounted a particularly vicious attack, taking out any elves in their path, including Panaetha...she did her best to heal the wounded, and when she'd realized she had no chance, she used her magic to distort the bodies of their attackers. Even though she couldn't do much damage before she was struck down, she did enough to help the survivors get away. Candeo held his daughter close as he felt his lifemate's spirit slipping away. Ink-skin was also lost in that battle, and Candeo took Aethyr as his own.
After many turns at the new peach, Candeo returned to Broken Mountain to allow his children space to grow and live without him nagging them all the time. He may be back some day.
