[&]History: After the War for the Palace ended, several Go-Backs from Khavi's tribe decided to break out and start anew. One such group was led by an avid star-gazer, who was always moving with the seasons, using star constellations for navigation. They became a nomadic tribe known as the Starchasers, and existed for centuries with relatively little interaction with humans or trolls. This group of Go-Backs met with a small band of Wolfriders close to 350 years ago (from current events), and they merged after several members of both tribes Recognized. Scruff and Giare were among the first.
Hida's life was normal. She was loved by her parents and raised to be a hunter and scout like her father. Hida was a happy, overly-energetic elfess who was only still while hunting (compeletly focused on the end-goal). She was constantly fidgeting and moving (and if she's not moving then she's talking). She loved to sing and dance and was a social butterfly. She also was vain about her vivid colored eyes and dark, downy-soft curls, keeping them long and often elaborately braiding them with flowers or grasses.
However she grew sour and bitter watching her agemates having fawns and pairing off into little families. Her vanity and wounded pride led her to be selfish and spiteful. If she felt she wasn't being paid enough attention, she would (and did) steal other people's lovers.
Longdays, AS 111: a local group of humans had begun to move closer to the Starchaser's mountain valley, and the elders decided the time to move on had come. They packed up their tents and belongings and headed North. About two weeks later, they located a mountain-side where caverns and holes were abundant. The scouts explored the caves as far as they could, to be sure there was no danger; nothing appeared suspicious, so the Starchasers moved in. Unbeknownst to them, the caverns and tunnels were actually home to an army of trolls, led by the cruel tyrant Ironskin. The doorways to the troll tunnels had been carefully concealed within the caves, making it almost impossible for the elves to know they were trespassing. A few days passed without issue, but Ironskin's scouts discovered the group living in the caverns and planned an attack. The trolls struck in the night without warning, when the elves were fast asleep. Several tribe members were slaughtered before they even had a chance to run or fight back, and those that raised their weapons were cut down quickly.
Hida was on look-out that night and so was close to the mouth of the cave. She tried to fight her way in to the cave to her parents' side but a troll came between them. She engaged the troll and would have felled her opponent but he kicked dirt in her face. Blinded, she floundered. She was able to dodge what would have been a killing blow, mostly out of instinct but she wasn't able to avoid it completely. The troll's blade came down across her face as she twisted away. Unable to see she should have died in the cave but was grabbed by one of the escaping tribemates. It would later turn out to have been Sage that saved her.
It was only after, when the survivors were able to regroup that she realized her parents were not among them. She knew what it meant, her parents had likely died in the attack. She mourned but they had wounded to tend to, herself included. Her eye was tended as best as could be managed but her sight was beyond saving. She retained some sight but not enough to go back to her old life. Hida was lucky to survive. They became wanderers, searching for safety. It is during this time that Hida took to cutting her hair (having cast her vanity aside as well as much of the personality that developed because of it) to be more practical. She also stopped being a hunter and became a caretaker, finding an unexpected joy in taking care of what was left of her tribe, for the first time in her life caring about others more than herself.
Leaffall, AS 113: Now, the rains came relentlessly as the small band, now having dwindled to six as three were lost over the last two years, began to move up into the mountains following a herd of elk. Leaf fall was here and it was getting colder. Needing the hides to set a winter camp, the band followed them along a narrow, winding pass. Hida, being the worst hunter now and always the main one to set up camp, moved farther up the pass to set up a camp for the night with two others, Lini and Saren while the remaining three, Sage, Elka, and Joren went on the hunt. The camp was nearly completed when the quiet was broken by the sound of cracking stone. Despite the warning there was no time to react as the weakened mountainside came tumbling down on the Elves below.
