[&]History:
Raised by the warrior-scout couple, Teena and Brahn, Tulen has lived most of his life with good cheer and humor despite the many losses he’s seen and a hard youth. Most of Tulen’s life has been spent fighting off troll attacks and scrabbling to survive against the harsh northern environment. Tulen lets others get close, but never too close - not after the losses he’s seen in his long life. He’s used to saying goodbye and dislikes getting too attached to anyone.
Having been almost buried alive in an avalanche once, he particularly hates the sound - or even idea - of avalanches. But then, who actually LIKES them?
He’s outlived most of his lovemates and children, his parents and one of his siblings. He calls everyone in the lodge ‘friend’ but he can count on one hand those he truly let's get close to him. One of Zeel’s cadre of friends, Tulen is closest to the large warrior, Rhet, Chet and Kellera. He was also very close to Xander and Vugad before their deaths. Although he is their friend, Tulen prefers to keep out of their inter-personal drama and is the one impartial friend in the mix.
Laid back to the point of neglect, nothing ever seems to phase him, but there are times when you can see the wheels churning in his head or a flicker of emotion will show in his grey eyes. But the moment usually passes quickly and he shrugs it off with a casual grin and a playful comment. Despite his relaxed demeanor, playful boasting, and willingness to be the butt of the lodge jokes, Tulen is not stupid at all and dislikes being thought of in that manner.
He will go out of his way to prove to someone who’s underestimated him that they shouldn’t though he never does it out of viciousness or vindictiveness. He’s seen too often how things can escalate and prefers not to be the spark to start a blaze.
Tule is the sort of guy who's 'always around' but rarely noticed until you're looking for him and notice he's been sitting behind you for hours. Because its so easy for him to be overlooked, he's often become privy to others private conversations without even meaning to. Fortunately, he's not a gossipmonger and his tongue doesn't waggle about the secrets he knows - unless it might harm the lodge. He's learned the hard way to speak up when he knows a storm's brewing.
Tulen is a jack of all trades which generally means he’s a master of none, which often makes him the butt of jokes because of his playful boasts and cheeky comments about the amazing prowess he has in this or that skill. There is one exception and that is unarmed combat. Tulen is excellent at hand-to-hand fighting, grappling and wrestling though most of the lodge tends to forget this about him. His center of gravity is a tad lower than usual, making him very balanced on his feet - even drunk he doesn't fall over but sorta, rolls back to a standing position when he stumbles. The only person who’s ever beat him at unarmed combat (so far) is Zeel and that’s simply because he outclasses him in size, reach and muscle mass.
Tulen is surprisingly strong and prefers to wield heavy, long weapons rather than short swords and spears much like his parents, Teena and Brahn. The reach helps make up for fighting against longer armed opponents. Agiler than he seems both physically and mentally, Tulen puzzles out issues with a quiet quickness that often provide decent results though not always the BEST resolution. Though he boasts and jokes about his many ‘exploits’ and glorious conquests, Tulen readily does the grunt work of the lodge without being asked or without expecting anything in return.
If you need a helping hand, Tulen’s your man. He simply does what has to be done to keep the Lodge going.
[&]Often seen wearing:
Tulen keeps a bandana that he ties around the forehead and over his ears when sparring or working. It’s usually tied at the back of his head in a knot and hangs down his back. He often has messy grey locks poking out the top of the bandana. He loathes cutting his hair too short, preferring to keep it about shoulder length and just tie it up rather than have to deal with shearing bangs all the time.
Tulen's clothes are easy to take off, easy to put on, and require little maintenance. He prefers to keep things simple and has minimal embellishments - There is criss-cross stitching down the seams of his pant legs and vest which he can open to loosen or close at will. He does prefer to stick with neutral colors, heavy weaves and leather/fur trims as needed.
Summer: Warm grey hued leather vest with dark leather shoulder patches, usually nothing underneath - on cool summer days he'll add a sleeveless shirt under the vest; Low-rise leather pants the same color as the shoulder patches with cool grey stitching down the sides; Mid-calf dark brown boots also with grey ties (he often has then rolled down).
Fall:
Tulen adds a long sleeve shirt under his vest; later a turtleneck or fur-trimmed shirt under the vest and he rolls his boots up.
Winter:
A heavier, long sleeve leather jacket replaces the vest with a fur-trimmed leather hood. Tulen wears a heavy, tightknit shirt under the jacket; usually medium-grey or light grey color. He replaces his warmer weather boots with fur-lined and oil-treated boots that come up to the knee in a medium grey tone.
His pants are also thicker, practical and blend into the whitecold landscape with a muted grey or brown tone
[&]Complexion: Medium complexion, paler in winter, fairly tan in the summer
[&]Hair: Grey that bleaches to silver in the sun and goes back to grey in cold seasons
[&]Eyes: Silver eyes that reflect blue or dark grey with his mood
[&] Build: Stockier than most, Tulan is all compact muscle and quick reflexes. He seems thinner than he is because his clothes tend to hang loosely on his frame
[&]Height: 4’0" Average height
[&]Special features:
Tulan has thick dark grey eyebrows that are as expressive as his mouth and often quirked upward with equal humor and good cheer. His hair bleaches in the summer causing him to have a natural ombre in varying tones of grey.

[&]Bonded animal: Elk:
Nibbler (2 years old )
“Gummy” is the nickname Tulen gave his elk when it was a fawn and it’s kinda stuck in his mind as her name, though others call the playful female “Nibbler” since she likes to nibble on the edge of clothes or on your hair if you’re not paying her attention. She also loves to nibble at any treats (presumed or actual) that someone brings to the pens.
Playful and a bit hyper at times, she’s still pretty young and being trained but Tulen seems to like her attitude and lets her get away with her naughty antics despite Ruska and Danik’s attempts at breaking her of these habits. He often sneaks her snacks when he comes to visit so she expects anyone visiting = a new treat as tribute!
Any other information:
The older half-brother of Sala, his mother admitted once, that she suspected his actual sire was a wanderer named "Straystar" but since Brahn was the father he'd known all his life, Tulen let this knowledge fade to distant memory. He was once much closer to his family but has distanced himself from his sister and nephews over the years. When the last of his own children died, he seemed to close himself off completely from the concept of kin-closeness. Tulen has scars he rarely displays but his lack of kin-closeness may be one of them.
EDIT 1/25/2019: Updated weapons to lower proficiency in shorter/close range weapons and upgrade longspear to Excellent as per original introduction thread of Tulen HERE; Added lovemate's names Adeni and Syrcha (Sear-sha) ))
