Here are our rules and guidelines. We'll confirm you've read these before you're allowed to play. Rules are hard and fast, and can be broken...guidelines are more flexible.
Rules
1. This RPG is rated PG-13. If you dislike depictions of gore, violence, implied sex and other potentially offensive descriptions, please visit a different holt. It is suggested that any and all “delicate” material be done with good taste. The fine people at Proboards.com have a Terms of Service and violating it would be a tragedy for everyone.
2. There is a monthly activity check. You must post once a month, per character; however, you cannot post only once per character in consecutive months. For example, if Player A were to post with Character A once in January, they must post twice with Character A in February to keep that character active.
We will no longer alert you if you are close to becoming inactive, only if you officially are. Here is how we will determine inactivity:
1 month without posting: we will note it on our mod board.
2 months: we will send an inactivity notice to the inactive character and add them to the Inactive section of the sidebar.
3 months: we will alert you that your inactive character is being prepped for adoption/killing off.
4 months: we will place the inactive character for adoption or kill them off.
Chief characters have slightly different guidelines. Chief characters must be posted with four (4) times per month to remain active.
3. No God-Modding. God-Modding means that you take control of another player’s character in your post/reply. For example, you’re roleplaying with Bobby. In your post, you say, “And then Bobby reached over and touched me on the shoulder.” If Bobby’s post does not say that he has made such an action, then you are God-Modding. It’s irritating to the other player to have their character taken out of their hands, so don’t do it.
4. Every new in-game thread must start with a very small form. The title of your thread goes in the subject bar, and then a form below with the following information:
Date: (Season/Day/Year) (you may add time of day if you like, but Wolfriders will default to evenings, and other tribes will default to days)
Participants: (character tags go here if needed) (open/closed/open to #)
For example:
Thread Title: All The Single Laddies (this goes in the Subject line)
Date: Newgreen 27 128 A.S.
Participants: OPEN
The season and year is always linked on the sidebar, and the visual timelines are in the Timeline thread pinned to the top of each board. The visual timeline for the current plot will be linked on the sidebar as well. If a new thread does not contain AT LEAST the season and year, it will be immediately locked. A specific day must be added within three posts, or it will be locked until edited accordingly.
5. Keep your plots within the same context of the site’s plot. If you need more information on our plot, PM one of our administrators.
6. We have a no-ignorance policy. This policy simply means that if you break a rule here and claim you didn't know it existed, you will still be held responsible for it. You are required to prove that you read the rules before you are approved to join for this reason.
7. Display names must be your character's name. Playing multiple characters is allowed, but they must be created on separate accounts.
8. Deaths must be discussed with a mod; we'll never say you can't kill off your own character, but we'd like you to tell us about it first. Recognitions must be discussed and agreed upon between two players, and then discussed with the mods. Such major events require coordination in the larger scheme of things. This applies to characters played by different people or the same person.
9. Please stay in touch with us. Oakleaf Holt offers three major methods of communication: this forum, our Facebook page (linked in the left sidebar), and our oakleafholt@gmail.com account. If you are going to be absent for awhile, please let us know via any of those methods, or in our Absence thread. Please do not make us hunt you down.
10. We reserve the right to change these rules at any time.
11. Just to make sure we know you've read the rules, there's a password you'll need to PM to the High Ones account: "By the High Ones, I've read the rules, Leafpath!"
Guidelines
1. We recommend that posts contain two paragraphs; a paragraph, by our definition, is a block of text with at least three sentences within it. We are not fond of one-liner responses; the more thought and detail you put into your post, the more enjoyable it is to read and respond to!
2. The staff assume no responsibility for our members. If someone is irritating you, please attempt to work it out in a civil manner through PMs. If you cannot resolve your issues, let a mod know and we'll help you out. With this in mind, please treat others with respect and avoid things like talking about people behind their backs in the chat box.
3. The cbox is for out-of-character chatting only. No official business will be taken in the cbox. Discussions are fine, but if you'd like to talk to a mod about something official, please PM us on the forum.
4. No Mary Sues/Gary Stus. This general rule encompasses the “perfect” character in addition to the “overly flawed and angst-ridden” one. A few flaws are nice, but don’t over-do it. If you have a problem meeting this requirement, or have questions, please PM one of the admins.
5. Players are free to edit their character-sheets. However, drastic changes (such as adding magical abilities) must be approved by a staff-member first.
6. This holt respects the canon. In terms of character-creation this means everything not contradicting the canon directly is possible.
7. You are allowed TWO characters per tribe. Exceptions are granted when one adopts a character, at the staff's discretion. The only adoptables are the ones the mods post and list in the sidebar; plucking NPCs from someone's CIS or the pool of NPCs does not count. People with fewer characters overall will be given the first chances at any empty spaces. No more than half of your characters can have magic. You must keep up with your threads for each character before you will be allowed to make another.
8. Each magic has two spots available. Once those spots are filled, we will accept no more elves with that magic until one of those spots becomes available. We are also biased in favor of diversity; we'll more readily accept a character with a magic that no one else has. Additionally, characters can gain magic later on down the line. If you'd like your non-magical character to discover a magic, PM a mod and we'll talk about it. Each character may only have one magic, though we may make exceptions for similar "schools" of magic (like a healer learning to shape flesh), or for Wavedancer tail-shaping.
9. There are different ways to indicate different forms of communication. Generally...
-"speaking"
-**sending** (open by default, locksending must be indicated as such)
-thinking (but this can also be something in the past)
-<human speech>
Warning System
First offense: warning from mod team
Second offense: warning from mod team & 24-hour ban
Third offense: warning from mod team & 48-hour ban
Fourth offense: you're out
Offenses will stay on record for a month. We reserve the right to edit consequences as necessary.
