I'm just starting a thread for the Mythology etc. that we come up with for the Wavedancers, since there is not much of it in canon in the comic books. Please feel free to add whatever you come up with that has been mentioned in gameplay.
Moons:
Since the tides are controlled by the two moons, ceremonies often revolve around when they are both full or both absent from the skies.
The Eel Moons (beginning of summer) - the full double moon is when the Calling of the Names ceremony occurs. It is named the Eel Moon for the eels that come out in full force to eat the fish and frogs that are in abundance. The calling of the Names Ceremony is normally followed the next day by an eel hunt and an eel roast.
Ceremonies:
The Calling of the Names (beginning of summer) - Occurs during the full Eel Moons. It is a chance for the Wavedancers to introduce themselves as new elves and start again fresh. They introduce themselves for who they would like to be seen as in the coming year. It's also a great opportunity to announce special happenings and occasions. It's often followed by a feast.
The Spawning (late summer) - Occurs a few days after the last full moons of the summer season. An annual event when all the creatures of the deep such as the fish, the coral, the plants, the mammals and the WaveDancers take part in a sexual frenzy of reproduction. It is a visual and sensual feast for most with a small chance for Recognition. (This is actually a natural phenomena that happens on coral reefs.) ((Taken from the original Wavedancers comics, series 2.))
Return to the Sea - a ritual where a passed Wavedancer is 'returned to the sea' by causing them to bleed and be fed to sharks in deeper waters, away from the bay.
Traditions
Young pips go out and catch clams. The first pearl they find is given to their mother or grandmother as a gift of appreciation and love.
Other sea-related happenings:
The Red Tide - happens when harmful red algae appears in the ocean and kills fish, birds and other marine life as it pulls all of the oxygen from the water. (this is an actual oceanic occurrence that happens in the Gulf of Mexico.
Sea Creature names:
Clams
Redclaws (crabs)
Slaptails/fliptails (whales)
Daggerteeth (sharks)
Bellyrippers (lampfish shark mix)
Eels
Pufferfish
Narwhales
Pips (shrimps. Pipshells is a common swearword for Wavedancers)
Popshells (mussels)
Seastars (starfish)
Leatherbacks (turtles)
