Foxtrail was a restless cub. He roamed the woods as soon as he could walk and got into brawls he often caused himself with his bold manner. His favourite target was Starblaze, the chieftess´ son and they grew to rivals early on. His pranks earned him no friends, but he preferred to be on his own anyway. This changed when his parents died by human hands, leaving the two cubs behind. Afraid to lose his only family left, he made the safety of his little sister Softfur, only a little cub back then, to his highest duty, and trained his fighting-skills in case humans would attack again.
The two siblings grew very close. He adored her serenity and innocent kindness, for he was so louche himself. He taught her what he had learned himself during his many evasions to the forest. When she grew older, his protectiveness sometimes went overboard, causing arguments more often. One day, she ran off and injured her leg in an accident so badly, she couldn´t run properly anymore. Foxtrail blamed himself for this, even doubling his efforts to protect her. He hunted for both of them and tried to cheer her up and entertain her whenever he could.
When Night Arrow´s tribe joined his, he fell for the troublemaker, but then painfully discovered her feelings for his rival Starblaze. The new tribemates made things even less easy. He liked their roughness and wild lifestyle, but when they started to pick on his sister, he quickly made clear where he stands.
Both siblings were caught by trolls when they were away from their holt. He had to work in the mines at first, but soon the trolls used his skills to weave their webs of intrigues, forcing him to spy, steal and even kill for them. That provided him special connections and information he used to plan his escape, but his attempts failed until he teamed up with Night Arrow. Because of his lame sister, he seperated with Night Arrow on their flight and stuck to Softfur and Fletcher.

After their escape, thrilled to be free again, he had a wild and turbulent love affair with Night Arrow which ended dramatically and as quickly and unexpected (to him) as it had started. With Mindlurker spinning his hatred among them, the refugees were put to a hard test and he, once again, stuck to Fletcher and Softfur while Night Arrow split from them and left the forest. She left a big crack in Foxtrail´s heart and a scar on his chest.
He bonded with Fang, moved into a den away from the holt to have his peace and (with some struggle) gave Softfur room to be Fletcher´s lovemate. He sometimes hung out with Starfall or Hawk, who had become some kind of sporty rival in any silly competition. He became a little fond of Nightsky, but the two of them ended up dancing rather aimlessly around eachother before she died in battle.

When the message of war between the Go-Backs and trolls reached the forest, he was of the first one who agreed to join the battles. At the lodge, he met Night Arrow again and they took revenge together. Lost in missunderstandings, things became complicated with her again, as Zeel kept provoking him and picked a fight. Foxtrail eventually gave up on Night Arrow when he learned about her soulsister Swifteye and realized she had found a home in the mountains.

After first losing Night Arrow to the Go-Backs and Nightsky to the trolls, the next heavy loss awaited him in spring the following year, when his dear sister Softfur and his good friend Starfall both drowned in the river´s raging currents. Blaming himself again, the tragedy left him hollow and with a numb feeling causing him to pull even more reckless stunts to fight it. The tragic incident bind him together with Fletcher even more. Seeing him as the only family left to him now, he shared his soulname with him and cares for the bowyer as devoted as he did for his sister.

Caught in a series of seemingly never ending tragedy, he found Tenderleaf brightening up his life from time to time. What started with ongoing banters and silly name-calling slowly grew into an odd but deep friendship, and eventually into love.
