In the name of moving forward, we have decided to make more definitive announcements on recruitment and character creation.
Oakleaf will start heavily recruiting starting on December 1st. We'll be hitting up the Scroll and some particular people who have shown interest in joining us. We feel that December is a good time because our game may slow down a bit due to the holidays, but the Scroll should be fairly active, at least with people visiting between opening presents and obligatory family dinners. As we recruit, we'll also be accepting new character applications, from current and new players. You are free to send us potential CISs privately, or talk to other players about creating characters together (a set of siblings, lovemates, parent/child, just friends), but you'll be able to post them and get approval in December.
Here are the spots we'll be looking to fill.
Wolfriders
-TWO male spots
Go-Backs
-TWO male spots
(we HIGHLY encourage people to check out the NPC list when creating a Go-Back! We have 18 living NPCs just waiting to be made into characters, many of whom come with pre-existing connections; it's an easy way to get a new character into the game!)
Wavedancers
FULL: only overflow spots remain.
Adoptables are available IMMEDIATELY. Priority for new characters will be given to people who have fewer characters.
Those numbers reflect only the sexes in each tribe we have available; we may be willing to skew the ratios slightly in the interest of filling the tribes. There is also magic available; magic will be given to players who have fewer magical elves. The tribal lists (which one can find by clicking the appropriate tribe name on the sidebar) will indicate what magics and roles are already in the tribe, so whatever gap you would like to fill, feel free. We are also open to current characters developing magical skills.
Tam's ideas for elves entering the game are below; they're just ideas, not set in stone. If you have ideas, feel free to post them. Because we don't like the idea of a ton of splinter tribes out there, we would like for a majority of the new characters to enter at the same time; we don't need nine wandering Wolfriders coming from nine different tribes to just happen upon the holt, for example. With that said, we will not wait forever for applications to come in, so we're hoping that people apply quickly once recruitment starts.
Wolfriders: after some trigger events, the small tribe will finally use their strongest senders to reach out to Ember's tribe, asking if more elves would like to join. This is a tiring, once every blue moon sort of deal. The group who comes will all arrive at the same time...we may not wait until all nine spots are taken, but this should hopefully reduce the number of wanderers.
Go-Backs: not sure yet. Pulling characters from the NPC list would be the best way to reduce wanderers, but we could use other ideas.
Wavedancers: two females from the sister pod follow Oahni and Sandskimmer two years later to join the tribe. Another idea, two females from a pod more used to the cold cross the Vastdeep and find our pod.
On the ending note, you all may have noticed that we have a lot of children coming into the game. Four are pending (or newly born) for the Go-Backs, one for the Wolfriders, and two for the Wavedancers. We understand that people very much enjoy the Recognition and reproduction aspects of the game. However, to keep things realistic, we can't have seven children conceived in a single plot. Developing your character outside of reproduction is crucial for this reason. Additionally, while these seven children won't be playable in plot 3, they may be in plot 4. That's a lot of adoptables. Most likely, they'll become player-tied NPCs; for example, Badger and Mistblossom's child will be put up for adoption, but controllable only by Badger and Mistblossom's players until an adoptive player is found. This also means the parents' players have control over the ultimate fate of their offspring. Parents of the pending children will need to make sure their child is accounted for; they can't always fade into the background or be pawned off on a character not in the thread. Reproduction can be great character development, but the offspring must be considered as well.
Thoughts? Questions? Suggestions? Post below and let us know!
