[&]History: Lostwind was born under the name of Echo. As a child, he was chatty and excitable more so the most Wolfrider cubs. Because he would follow his elders around and asked questions constantly, he was called “Echo.” However, when he was six turns old, he came down with a severe sickness and high fever. Eventually, with careful tending, he recovered, but was rendered deaf.
Following his hearing loss, Echo became very quiet, withdrawn, and skittish. The elders would oven whisper, “Oh, poor, little lost Echo.” His tribal name eventually became “Lost Echo.”
Lost Echo became very observant from becoming watching his tribesmen, as quiet observation helped to calm his fears. Before he was able to send, he learned how to read lips. He grew to be very perceptive of body language, facial expressions, and lip reading. He also excelled in observing his natural surroundings.
However, none of this was ever able to make him into a hunter. Lost Echo wouldn't hear prey or predictors and is unable to navigate the forest quietly, so he can't hunt. Lost Echo attempted to go hunting with his fist bond wolf. It was a disaster. He was too loud when hunting because he has no idea how much noise they were making. The branch horn they were attempting to hunt turned on them and attacked. Lost Echo was caught on the left wide of his face by its antlers. It was lucky he didn’t lose his eye along with his hearing. The wounds shark and faded over the decades to nearly invisible scars across the left side of his face. He was banned from hunting after that.
Because of this, someone in the tribe taught him how to spear fish. He didn't have to be and to hear--only see--to be able to spear fish. With his Wolf companion guarding him, Lost Echo could justify his place in the tribe by fishing.
When he wasn't fishing, Lost Echo began carving tools, ornaments, and jewelry from wood, bone, and stone to keep himself busy. While he isn’t the best craftsman in the tribe (not by a long shot) he enjoys being able to do something for his people. He was taught how to fight with a longbow and knives. He can fight well enough to keep himself from being killed, but he isn’t skilled enough to boast about.
Due to being deaf, when Lost Echo spoke his speech was slurred and unintelligible. When he was old enough to send it became his only more of communication. His personality blossomed under being taught how to fish, fight, and craft, revealing him to be snarky and sarcastic. While he is patient when fishing or crafting, he quickly becomes impatient with other elves, especially those who underestimate him or act as though he can’t understand what they’re saying and cut him out of conversations.
When Lost Echo learned his Soul Name, Wyeth, he came to know himself as a person and grew in confidence. The Wolfrider Chief realized that there was nothing Echo-like about him anymore when he came into his own and changed his tribal name to “Lost Wind.” He earned the name “Wind” from his biting sarcasm and “Lost” was a reminder more of a reminder to the rest of the Wolfriders of his deafness and that he can’t always protect himself.
